Edgar Cayce: Sleeping Prophet and Life Work

Edgar Cayce makes this end times series because he predicted the second coming of Christ in 2000.

I grew up in the era where the predictions of the sleeping prophet Edgar Cayce was very popular. I was fascinated by him and his psychic ability. Cayce is one of the most well known healers and prophets of the 20th century.

There is even an Edgar Cayce center for study in Canada.

Edgar was born in 1877 and died in 1945. Even though I was not yet born when he died, his popularity lived on in the 1970’s when I began to appreciate his work.  Edgar was said to be born with an amazing gift to be able to prophesy while is was sleeping or in a trance.  No one had heard of the New Age Movement in his time, but there are those who believe that he was the founder of the New Age Movement because the of the messages he received in trances.

His work on Christian living and healing was was often overshadowed by the prophesies that became ever so popular towards the end of his life.  Cayce was a very religious man and member of the Disciples of Christ.

Some Christians challenge his unorthodox views on religions while others believe his gift was real and given by God.  He was a proponent of Akashic records. The Akashic records are ancient Sanskrit texts, where are said to contain all the knowledge of cosmos and found on a different plane of existence.  Cayce also followed the Hindu belief of reincarnation.

Cayce was said to be able toheal people through his trances by providing treatment advise. He gained international fame from as early as the late eighteen hundreds. By 1900, Cayce had become a professional psychic (though he never profited from his readings and trances) and opened up several institutions. His many readings did take much energy from him and left him depleted. He died of a stroke in 1945.

Besides his medical advise given through trances, he also gave dream interpretations, information about past lives, business advice, spiritual advice, and so on. Cayce gave well over 14,000 readings but at least 7,000 of those readings have not been preserved and have gone missing.

Cayce never remembered what he said when he came out of his trance.  He also cautioned people to test the readings and apply only what was good for them in order to better their lives.  His also was said to be interested in astral travel, and auras and the lost civilization of Atlantis.

Cayce predicted that a death ray left over from the people of Atlantis would be found in 1958 in the USA.  He also predicted that the second coming of Christ would occur in the year 2000.

Cayce had many followers in his day such as Irving Berlin, Gershwin, Woodrow Wilson and Thomas Edison.

I did read some of his books when I was in my teens. Unlike my friend Roberta, I was never a fan of his writing.

Cayce has been a fascination of mine for many years. I've been a member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment since the 1970s. While as a scientist I cannot blindly accept his "gift," his predictions involving particular individuals can't simply be ignored.
